Most of my American clients spend between 3 to 7 days in Provence. Here is my itinerary of top 10 to do places to visit on a short stay:
1.) My favorite markets: Eygalières on Friday morning, St Remy on Wednesdays, and Maussane and Menerbes on Thursdays.
2.) lunch or dinner at the Bistro du Paradou or at La Cuisine Provençale:)
3.) Visiting the Luberon Perched Villages : Begin at the viewing point in Gordes, visit the village, drive to Roussillon en route to Goult and Menerbes - lunch is at Clover, Gordes ****, or Le 5 , Menerbes for the view , or at the Bastide de Marie, Menerbes - top choice.
4.) Visit wine domaines and wine tasting in Les Alpilles : Mas de la Dame, les Baux de Provence, Romanin, Saint Remy de Provence, Domaine de Pierredon, Mouriès, Domaine Milan, Saint Remy de Provence.
5.) Visit a brocante (antiques) market: every last Sunday of the month in Eygalières - all day. Every Saturday morning in Villeneuve Les Avignon, and every Sunday in Isle sur la Sorgue.
6.) Visit Arles and the Pont du Gard - Roman sites not to be missed: The Roman amphitheater in Arles, the cryptoporticus - Arles, the Roman museum in Arles - musee departmental antiques. From Arles head to The Pont du Gard for a swim and picnic. On the rivier droite side you have a delightful pebble beach and rock ledges to sunbathe. Don't miss hiking up over the aquaduc and visiting the wonderful museum on the other side.
7.) Visiting Les Alpilles villages: Boutique Shopping in Saint Remy de Provence : la Grande Magasin, Souleiado, and many more.. meander the streets on an off market day, visit Saint Paul de Maussole, and Glanum. The main square in Maussane for lunch or Bistro du Paradou, la Carriers de Lumière after lunch, and Les Baux de Provence for a sunset Apero.
8.) Cultural highlights: Take in a concert at: Pierre Cardins theater in Lacoste. Go to a Michelin star restaurant, the sculpture garden at Chateau Lacoste.
9.) Visit la Calanques in Marseille or Cassis
10.) Spend a day in La Camargue - flamingos and bird lovers paradise. Beautiful wetland preserve with amazing Provençale bull ranches and cowboy culture, and white Spanish horses, gorgeous sandy beaches and a very cute town on the seaside - Saints Marie's de la Mer. Highlights: the ornithological park, the 12th century church, visiting a bull ranch, chillin on the beach after lunch at Farinette Plage.
